iPhone apps for college media

Last week, I noticed via twitter (@danielbachhuber) that the Daily Tar Heel had launched an iPhone app, developed with Amuzu, Inc. Going to the link, I noticed that the Daily Illini and the Daily Sundial at Cal State-Northridge had also worked with Amuzu to develop their iPhone apps. (all those links are to the iTunes store, which I believe will only work if you have iTunes on your computer) #
Because they are all created by the same developement company, the first screen (see in the screenshots below) looks very similar, except they each have some different applications enabled. For instance, the DTH has a drink specials guide (which they must be selling, I’m checking on this). #
I’m currently searching for other college media who have iphone apps (Rice’s KTRU has an “unofficial” app that streams their Internet radio feed), and might create a spreadsheet for them if there’s enough interest. #
Here are a few others I found: #
(all developed by Genwi, LLC.) #
Here at the University of Texas, we have a recently launched an iPhone app designed by Spreed that combines The Daily Texan's daily news content and KVRX's online radio stream, and will soon support streaming video from Texas Student TV and comedy content from the Texas Travesty. Version 2.0 should roll out early next semester. Can be found here: http://bit.ly/8lVjIm
A bunch of schools have apps that are tangentially related to the newspapers as well. iSwat is an application for Swarthmore that includes a news section that pulls from http://daily.swarthmore.edu. The University of Washington has m.UW which feeds from their paper as well. I suspect there are a bunch of these out there.
Miles, that's true. It's not too difficult for a school to pull in an RSS feed. I'm specifically interested in apps that are designed by/for college media that includes more than the RSS feed. I did see those school-specific apps when I was looking in the app store, but that's not my beat.

Student Life at Washington University is looking to release an app in the next few weeks—probably around when people return from classes. Unlike some of these apps, ours was developed working in conjunction with students in WashU's School of Engineering (which offers an iPhone development class) and will be open source so that other schools can build on our work and join in development once we've launched.
how can papers without a lot of $$ right now take advantage of this? my paper's struggling and we can't afford web site redesigns or apps, making me both ashamed of how behind we are and confused how every other college publication is dealing.
It should be noted that even though most students are into using Iphone and find the corresponding application useful, what is imperative is that these applications will help them be more resourceful. In addition, not all students are techy-savvy, so in this day and age where Iphone applications come along like vegetables on a market, some find it more convenient to do things the old school way.Essay writer

Good post, It's stupid, isn't it, to have a separate 'app' for every single web site? It seems to me to be very much a major step backward. But that's exactly what you get in the world of the iPhone, where (among the 50,000 other 'apps' Apple boasts about, we now see separate apps for college media. Well, you know what, Apple? I know a system that has a billion apps. It's called the internet, it supports content, interactive applications and crazy multimedia, and it's free.
there are millions of application on internet and again having a special application is like a impossible task as the technology advances day by day its hard to keep up with it, so its better to take what you need rather than running after the ones…..Regards,Used atv for sale
Really useful information. I agree that it will be hard to keep up the the advancement of technology. Most students love the iphones and have different needs in regard to the applications. Thank you for the post.
