Students at the 2009 Associated Collegiate Press Conference in San Diego, Calif. discuss ideas on revamping journalism education in the 21st century. #
At the present days there was less concentration on journalism area. Performing a job in this area will be very much interesting. Also we can learn more about the current affairs related to Politics, Cinema and etc.. for the students those who want to serve the society journalism will be a good choice…. ALL THE VERY BEST for those guys……….
Very good video. One of the most difficult things for me as an online editor is to help my advisers understand what we are trying to do. They even resisted the idea of having an online edition up until this semester for fear that their print edition will cease to exist. This seemed to be the general consensus among students at the conference — we don't get any help from our professors. The toughest thing for me is maintaining technological sustainability so that our site can continue to run when I'm gone.
professors, aka the older generation, are behind the times by default. the dynamic is definitely changing and journalism must be open to that. Students can teach the professors about new technology while professors can still facilitate the right conversations about ethics and quality and what this new era means.
I think that's something all online editors struggle with. I'm thinking about recruiting a team of web editors soon. I could train them NOW so by the time I leave my post they'll be pros. Thoughts?
In theory, that works. But I'm finding that some professors don't want to be taught by their students; it feels demeaning to their years of work in the industry. Collaboration is the key!
you can start training me. i had to pull in outside help to get my soundslides slideshow up on CP4 web site — check it though: <a href="http://www.thepolypost.com” target=”_blank”>www.thepolypost.com
I agree. Some professors are not capable of understanding the work we do. While they are good on educating us about ethics and putting together a story, they fall short when it comes to online news. Some have a hard enough time signing into their email.I would like to put together a crew to inherit my hard work but unfortunately, on the community college level, there is not as much passion and motivation. Maybe someone will come along though.
