Interns!
January 21, 2009 in CICM shop talk, internships
Alright, as I promised, you the faithful readers of the ICM weblog get to have some input into the intern application process. Here is a list of the intern applicants with links to their application essays. You get a vote, but you don’t get to see the vote (because I’m trying to be cognizant of the applicants’ feelings) and the final decision still rests with the CICM leadership. So here goes – in no particular order: #
- Â Jessica Estepa
- Â Eric Shellan
- Juana Summers
- Michael Rutschky
- Emily Kostic
- Jamie Klein
- Garrett Eagan
- Lauren Rabaino
- Joshua Edge
- Estelle Tran

Why is this being decided by a popularity contest?
Please re-read the post. It's not a popularity contest, but it's one aspect of what I'm using to make the decision.
I voted for Jessica Estepa. I liked those who suggested more multimedia tutorials (a la Greg Linch's post about changing the Hurricane's website), but Estepa tracked me down on Twitter with practically no contact info to go on. That's doggedness!
Lauren Rabaino's entry was awesome! She obviously "gets it" when it comes to multimedia.
Lauren Rabaino's submission is very original! I agree with MVR, she "gets it". Keep up the great work in multimedia.
I had the privilege to have Mike Rutschky in my news reporting class at Pensacola Junior College. He is a hard worker, talented and eager to get better. An internship of this sort would be just the "extra" training he needs as he prepares to make an impact in the media business.I recently retired after 32 years in the news business, 20 of which were as an editor for four different Gannett newspapers. Am now teaching.Mike is going to be a good one.
Lauren Rabaino has not only the qualifications but has the drive and intelligence todo whatever she puts her mind to! Lauren was under my direction at radio station K-TIP, NewsTalk 1450 in the Porterville/Visalia/Tulare area. She NEVER missed an assignment and was always on time or early! She was aquick-study and proved to be a very valuable addition to our news staff. Her writing of stories was impecable, her ready was excellent, and was even an excellent on the street reporter.Lauren comes from a good family and will always be welcomed back at thisradio station. The problem with that is….She will go on to bigger and better opportunities in the journalist life ahead of her.If she is NOT the "chosen one" , I will be surprised and know that she should have been. I thank you for allowing me to speak my mind on the wonderful subject of Lauren Rabaino, as its a subject I truely enjoy speaking about!Kent D. The best person for this job is Mike Rutschky. I woked with him at The Corsair in 2007 and 2008 and I enjoyed every minute of it. There will be regrets if he is not chosen. Danica S.
