A couple of years ago, I did a blog post suggesting the Ken Burns effect be used on audio slide shows.
A couple of professional photographer types jumped all over me about how it's overused, trite, boring, etc.
I'm unrepentant. I don't think any still photo should ever be used in a video format (such as an audio slide show) without the Ken Burns Effect. It's exceptionally useful for helping to tell the story of the photo, of drawing the eye to key elements of the photo; plus, when people sit in front of a video, they expect motion — it's just bad usability to present static photos.
I'm still proud of this slide show I put together for my Mother's 80th birthday.
