How to use twitter

Jack Lail argues that newspapers should use Twitter to build a trusted friendship with online readers (based on Ryan Sholin’s list). His numbered list is short: #
- The low-hanging fruit: Tweet your headlines.
- Dr. Obvious: Live-tweet an event.
- Birds of a feather: Gather intelligence from the crowd.
- Data mining: Find the sources in the noise.
- Network effect: Use Twitter followers as a focus group.
it comes down to 3 types of tweets
Promotional–where you promote yourself AND other people (you've got to give to get) ie: check out this persons link on xxx, it's pretty good (@reply them)
Personal–"hey just landed in vegas, had a mean cheeseburger at xxx, come meetup at xxx later"
Conversational– these are @replies to someone who you find interesting, want to get to know better, like to communicate with–if people are tweeting, let them know you are listening!
