Hurricane settles on WordPress

 hurricane

I wrote previously about the Miami Hurricane's decision to move off College Publisher. EIC Greg Lynch writes that they have decided against using Drupal as their new content management system, settling instead on WordPress, inspired by Sean Blanda and the experience of the Temple News. Lynch mentions the Nevada Sagebrush as another WP-powered college news site. There's also the Collegian at CSU-Fresno and the Gargoyle at Flagler College. And this weblog runs off WordPress as well.

I get asked the question of what platform is best quite often. And my answer remains: it depends on so many different factors, there's no one answer. Some people have face-to-face access with highly qualified programmers who can work Drupal out to do what they want. Others, not so much. Your answer will depend on the resources you have at hand. Above all, don't bite off more than you can chew. Find something that works and start doing the journalism - a CMS is only a platform for your future journalism, not the journalism itself.
