Spartan Daily hosting live video of press conference

March 17th, 2008 by Bryan

Kyle Hansen mentions that the Spartan Daily at San Jose State will be feeding live video of their meeting with SJSU President Don Kassing from 3-4 p.m. (pacific) today. Check it out if you get the chance. I’m curious what service they’re using. There are several live video services out there now. Perhaps Kyle will drop by with a comment.

We are going to use ustream. I have tested in in our newsroom and it seems simple enough to use, but this will be the first time we have ever covered a live event online.

We are very fortunate that the president meets with the campus media once a month for us to ask about pretty much anything. We have been trying to find ways to better represent the students and give them a channel to the president who they normally would never have the chance to meet on a 30,000+ student campus.

I promise to post an update on my blog after we see how it goes.

I just posted a update on my blog. The video worked really well, although I messed up the audio in the beginning. Ustream is really easy to use. Now that we have done this one, we are going to try and do more. With the wifi on our campus, we should be able to do it in almost any building and in a lot of the major outdoor areas.
