Setting up a media site on a budget

Alfred Hermida, a former BBC journalist now teaching at the University of British Columbia, writes about how he used WordPress MU to create a web site for his multimedia journalism classes. WP MU is open-source (meaning free) software, but Hermida purchased the Revolution News theme, which makes the WordPress install look more “newsmedia-like.” He also mentions some plug-ins they used to round out the features.

It’s certainly something to consider if you’re still looking at setting up your own college media site. A couple of other open-source contenders you might look at: Drupal and Joomla.
