Update (4:00 p.m. EDT): From an e-mail sent to the CMA Listserv, “WUVT-FM’s student Chief Engineer, Kevin Sterne was among those shot this morning in class and is in the ICU at Montgomery County Regional Hospital. That’s all the information we have on him at this point.” WUVT-FM is the student-run radio station at Va. Tech. #
Update (2:30 p.m. EDT): Collegemedia.com reports an additional 10 fatalities. Other coverage of the story from AP (via Yahoo! News) (which is reporting one fewer fatality) and the Roanoke Times, although the Times’ web site is extremely slow right now. Editor & Publisher makes a big story out of the Times covering the story “blog style” but neglects to mention the daily student newspaper, which is also updating the story “blog style,” and posted its first story at about 25 minutes before the Times’ first post. #
Update (12:26 p.m. EDT): Collegemedia.com and the AP both report that Blacksburg police say 22 people are dead following the shooting. #
Update (12:12 p.m. EDT): The Collegiate Times web site is down at the moment and updates are being posted on the VT EMCVT web site: Collegemedia.com. So far, one person is confirmed dead and one person is in custody. #
The Virginia Tech Collegiate Times is updating its web site with news about a shooting on the campus in Blacksburg, Va. The shooting occurred earlier this morning, and they are updating with time-stamped information as it is available. The main Virginia Tech web site was unaccessible. #
This comes two weeks after a shooting incident at the University of Washington (previous coverage). #
