The past couple of weeks has seen an uptick in the amount of spam attempting to invade this weblog, through comments and trackback. In the past three days, over 1,200 spam have assaulted comments. Fortunately, you or I never see most of these spam. thanks to Akismet, a plug-in developed originally for WordPress and now available to others. It’s sort of like the spam filter in Google Mail. I only see most of them when I’m deleting them. In the 6 months the ICM blog has been here, Akismet has caught 25,000 spam. That is not a lot, by any stretch of the imagination. However, the total has grown exponentially as more people read. I know A-list weblogs that get thousands of spam a day.
On one hand, it’s the price of success, I suppose. On the other, I hope those who barrage the Internet with their useless, often illegal, always annoying messages somehow get their due.
