Blogging and traditional journalism: circling an age-old discussion

Blogging and “Big-J” journalism is a discussion that crops up frequently, despite the fact that Jay Rosen declared it a dead horse over a year ago. I’ve written about the topic before, and even done a couple of research projects (with Kim Smith and Chris Roberts – fellow Gamecock Ph.D. students) that you can read here and here.

Now comes Martin Stabe with another great post on the subject, and Howard Owens with a rejoinder about ways in which blogging (along with other Web-based publishing methods) is a threat. Certain of Howard’s themes are echoed in another paper I wrote about the Mediahood of All Receivers.

If you haven’t circled this topic before, now’s as good a time as any to familiarize yourself with it.
