Sulzberger about face on fate of printed Times?

February 13th, 2007 by Ralph Braseth

At last month’s World Economic Forum, an Israeli newspaper had some interesting quotes from New York Times Publisher, Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. who in a Q&A said, “I really don’t know whether we will be printing the Times in five years, and your know what, I don’t care either.”

Editor & Publisher picked up the story last week.

I was surprised at the lack of coverage this story received in the popular press. Searches in the Times and Washington Post about Sulzberger’s comments showed no results. Not even a ripple. Heck, I thought this was a bombshell of a story.

Finally, a follow up story that offers come clarification to those comments. Sulzberger seems to hedge a bit in this piece in the New York Observer.

So, The Times printed product is now once again king according to Sulzberger. Is it really? How about that quote in the last paragraph?
