Snow day coverage?

bsu coverage

David Studinski, EIC for the BSU Daily News, e-mailed to ask what other schools are closed today and which college media outlets are using their web sites to cover the snow storm that’s blanketing the midwest?

I notice that Eastern Illinois University is closed, and the DENnews.com has coverage here.

BSU Daily News’ coverage here.

We’re working on stuff at The Daily Collegian Online at Penn State. Right now we just have cancellations, but people are also looking into road conditions and things.

We’re covering both the weather and a big basketball story here at The Daily Illini. Online, broadcast and print journalists are all working the stories together and our report online is already extensive.

SIUE didn’t close for the day, though it probably should have. Many faculty canceled classes. A few members of the Alestle staff that made it in to work wrote a breaking news story and posted it online this afternoon with a flash slideshow. (Needless to say, their adviser stayed home.) We publish twice a week, so a print version came out this morning, and we don’t publish again until Thursday.

No one can believe that Northern Kentucky University closed today. The last time the university closed was in 2004, but it was during Christmas break, so it didn’t matter. Before 2004, no admin can remember when it closed. We didn’t really get much snow, just a few inches of rain/ice/wintery mix. Our staff is mostly commuters, like the school, so we had a about 1/4 of our normal staff. Our Web editor became the photo editor, Ad Manager became a jack-of-all trades and our copy editor became a little of anything we needed at the time.

This is the second week in a row NKU has had delays or closures on our production day. We’re weekly and sick of snowy Tuesdays.

OSU closed 1 pm Tuesday but decision to close Wednesday came too late. Students produced paper last night, it was printed, and about 1/2 of our distribution stops reached. With the campus closed, we just suspended the attempt to deliver on campus
