Atlas updated: now with UCG

atlas

Rick Burnes of Faneuil Media, makers of the excellent mapping app Atlas, sent an e-mail Friday announcing a major update. Now, Atlas allows you to create maps that users can contribute to. I tweaked the College New Media map to take advantage of this new feature, and if you’ve been doing something interesting with your online site, you can add it to the map. It’s set up so that new additions will have to be approved so that it doesn’t get abused.

To see how this might work, check out this map by Gregory Corte at the Cincinnati Enquirer. Read more about the new features at the Atlas blog.

I’d really like to see a college media outlet take advantage of this tool. Did I mention that it’s free? That Fanueil Media has done all the heavy lifting for you to have a simple tool to add maps to your web site? There are all sorts of options for this that just require a little creative thinking and time. If you are doing something with Atlas, or any other mapping tool, drop me an e-mail so we can share it with the rest of the world: scmurley -at- gmail.com.
