The Arbiter, the student newspaper of Boise State University, has come face-to-face with the digital future through a happy coincidence. The student paper has reporters in Phoenix covering the Broncos’ trip to the Fiesta Bowl. As it’s the first BCS berth for Boise State, it’s obviously a big news opportunity for the students. But it’s also a time of year when the Arbiter isn’t printing, and students aren’t on campus.
So the Arbiter is using its Web site to post stories from Phoenix, including podcasts and video. Here’s an example of their video report, which was filtered through YouTube: Out of the Blue. Check out all their Fiesta Bowl coverage. Note that they also redesigned their site to brand it for the bowl.
I’m hoping to e-mail adviser Brad Arendt after the experience is over to see how the traffic went, and what the students took away from the experience.
