CampusByline launches

It’s not often that news of a new blog on the campus media beat surfaces, so it’s a pleasure to introduce our readers to Campusbyline.com, a new effort by Kiyoshi Martinez and his roommate and former Daily Illini editor Jeremy Pelzer. From “Why I started CampusByline.com“: #
I think that students can do top-notch journalism (I’ve witnessed it) and I believe that there’s a need to highlight the positive work being done. With that in mind, I wanted to start this blog. It’s going to start out small, at first, but we’re just a two-person operation right now along with full-time graduate school going on. Despite that, we’re determined to bring attention this overlooked niche of media that directly is affecting the much ignored and much sought after 18-35 demographic. #Martinez said the site was going to start small, only covering Illinois schools, but they’ve clearly widened their gaze, as they are already highlighting work from the Daily Nebraskan (link), the Daily Eastern News (link), the Stanford Daily (link), the Boston U. Daily Free Press (link), Back-to-school stories from around the country (link), and the manhunt that forced the cancellation of the first day of classes at Virginia Tech (link). #
Stay tuned. If they can keep this up, CampusByline will be a must-read for us all. #
